US Part D Changes in 2027

If you’re on Medicare Part D or helping a loved one navigate their options, there are some important changes coming in 2027 to be aware of. The premium stabilization program will end on January 1, which means Part D premiums may rise—though most people should see increases of less than $10. The national base beneficiary premium is set at $41.33 for 2027, but your actual premium will still depend on the plan you choose and your location.

Another significant update: the out-of-pocket cap for covered Part D prescriptions will be $2,400 for 2027. Once you reach this limit, you won’t pay any more for your covered drugs for the rest of the year, which can offer peace of mind and help with budgeting for those who rely on ongoing medications.

When the new 2027 plans are released in late Q3, I always recommend comparing your total yearly costs—not just the premium. Consider your specific medications, dosages, refill schedule, preferred pharmacies, deductibles, and drug tiers. Open enrollment is from October 15 through December 7, with changes taking effect January 1. Taking the time to review your options—not just automatically renewing—could mean finding a plan that’s an even better fit for your needs and budget.

As someone who helps people make sense of these choices every day, I know how overwhelming all the details can feel. My approach is to break it down simply, so you can feel confident and comfortable with your Medicare decisions.
